Raised in New York City, Ling studied English literature and media arts at Hawaii Pacific University.  After graduation he began working as a camera operator and editor on a local television series in Honolulu, since then he has worked as a independent filmmaker for many brands and agencies from New York to Hong Kong.

As a cinematographer, Ling has spent over a decade not only experienced in operating a variety of camera platforms, he is also highly proficient operator of many popular stabilised camera rigs such as Steadicam and Movi, as well an early adopter of piloting camera drones.
